Making Sense of Belize's New Flights
What these new routes from Florida and Montreal mean for Belize’s tourism industry
By now, you’ve heard that two new direct flights are being added to Belize’s schedule:
Spirit Airlines will begin Fort Lauderdale–Belize service on November 21, three times a week.
Air Canada will launch a seasonal Montreal–Belize route on December 8, once a week.
This isn’t just about more planes in the sky. It’s about access to huge markets:
Florida has nearly 24 million people, with about 6 million in the Miami–Fort Lauderdale area. That’s a lot of potential travelers within easy reach.
Quebec is home to 8.6 million people, and the greater Montreal area alone has about 4 million. It’s Canada’s second-largest province and a major new audience for Belize.
For the Montreal flight, remember that while many travelers also speak English, French is their primary language. Offering French-friendly menus, websites, and marketing materials can make a big difference. I also encourage Belize tourism professionals to spend time in Montreal. Understanding the culture firsthand can give you an edge in reaching this market.
